How does Picosure treatment work?
Picosure sends picosecond bursts (a trillionth of a second) of laser light deep into the skin. The laser passes through the upper layers of skin without causing any type of breakage or damage. Older lasers would actually break the skin on their way to the target treatment area. As the laser moves into the targeted area, it breaks apart pigment, processes scar tissue, and helps stimulate rejuvenation through prompting new collagen growth.
Why does Picosure have an advantage over other laser treatments?
Picosure has a couple of major advantages over other laser treatments. It's got an impressive safety profile. Some of the older lasers currently on the market break the skin, causing damage during each treatment. Picosure has advanced technology that allows for the acoustic breakdown of pigment. The pigment is broken into microscopic pieces that are then metabolized by the body and skin with only minor thermal effect.
Another Picosure advantage is that it's appropriate for use in all skin types. This laser was created especially to deal with darker skin types, most notably Asian skin. Older lasers could actually make pigmentation problems worse, causing Asian skin and other darker skin tones to become more deeply pigmented rather than lighter. Picosure can treat these darker skin tones just as effectively as it can treat lighter skin tones.
Finally, one of the biggest Picosure advantages is that it requires minimal downtime. You can have a treatment for tattoo removal, wrinkle reduction, melasma treatment, or other skin condition today and go right back to work tomorrow.
How many treatment sessions are needed?
This varies by the condition being treated, but in general Picosure treatments are usually complete within 5-10 sessions. Older lasers could take far more sessions and might be much less effective. Each treatment session is usually planned around six weeks apart. This allows your body time to process and treat pigment and scar tissue as well as create brand new collagen.
